My father was a naval officer who fought in two world wars. He was an engineer who slept in the engine room with his men. He refused medals unless they were given to all his people. They were a team. Only son I wished in retrospect we could have been closer. When he retired he worked for the Air Ministry and had to belong to a union. I found that he could follow study courses supplied by the union. I took the courses.
He received a request to go union headquarters. They were impressed with his results and wanted him to join the team in union HQ. He was horrified and that was the end my studies with his union.
