Sophie

Hi there,

My name is Rupert Colley. I normally write historical fiction (as you’ll see from this site) but these last few months I’ve written a contemporary tale under the pen name of Joshua Black. It’s called ‘Sophie‘, a psychological suspense. It’s 72k words (about 300 pages).

I’m looking for a few beta readers/Amazon reviewers. The paid beta I used said,

‘This novel is incredibly suspenseful. I continually had to slow myself down to keep from reading it too quickly. Of all of the orders I have had, I believe that your book might be both my personal favorite and my professional favorite. The maturity I see in your writing and in this novel is that of a bestseller. You reminded me of Gone Girl and the Girl on the Train. The deception and the intricate workings of revenge had me reading this book continually.’

So, here’s the blurb:

She has no idea who she’s letting into her life.

Vivienne lives on her own in the coastal town of Hastings. Her husband died not long ago and she’s adjusting to a life without the mental abuse he subjected her to on a daily basis.

One day, a stranger saves Vivienne from a bag-snatcher. Grateful, she invites the young woman into her home.

It is her first mistake.

Claire is charming but lonely. Despite the forty years between them, the two women soon become firm friends.

But, unknown to Vivienne, Claire has an agenda and will stop at nothing to right a historic wrong.

When, finally, Vivienne discovers that there is more to Claire than meets the eye, it is already too late…

If this appeals, please email me at rupertcolley@hotmail.com.

Also, do download my free short story, The Death of the Listening Man, a police procedural.

The novel is already available on Amazon as a pre-order, due 1st July 2023. Paperback to follow soon.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks!

Rupert aka Joshua.
